The AusDBF Officials Course is a one-day course aligned with AusDBF rules and regulations, providing a consistent standard of officiating in dragon boat racing across the country. It is a nationally accredited course, lodged with the Australian Sports Commission as the definitive Dragon Boat Racing Officials course. Upon completion of the course, participants are awarded a certificate for the appropriate status - Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3. By working through the levels, the participant can become a Level 3 Official and then go on to complete the IDBF Accreditation process. The course covers topics including people management, event organisation, competition regulations and rules of racing, managing a competition environment.

| Level 1 Coaching Course | return to top |
The AusDBF Level 1 Coaching Course is a two-day course providing a consistent standard of coaching in dragon boat racing across the country. It is a nationally accredited course. Upon completion of the course, participants work on full accreditation through their log books, including an assessment by another accredited coach. The course covers topics including teaching skills and communication, dragon boat paddling skills I & II, introduction to racing, physical conditioning, planning, sports safety and the law, monitoring your coaching.

| Sweeping Accreditation Exam | return to top |
The Sweeping Accreditation Exam is a 2 part exam designed to ensure all NSW sweeps are competent in both training and racing environments. Completion and success in the practical assessment will result in Provisional accreditation; after which race practice and co-ordinator assessment will be required to gain full accreditation. Sweeping accreditation exams ensure the safety of paddlers on the water through a consistent and measured set of guidelines. This exam comprises both practical and theoretical assessments which are re-tested periodically in line with sweeping experience.

| First Aid Course | return to top |
The Senior First Aid Course is a great opporunity as it's only 1 day instead of 2 days. You need to
do the written work online prior to the day so that makes it easy!
This is a course run in cooperation with the NSW Department of Sport & Recreation (Parasol EMT) and aims to teach the essential skills required to administer first aid to a victim of illness or injury until the arrival of professional medical help. The course is approved in NSW by WorkCover NSW (No.FA9543) and is essential award for workplace safety. This course is also approved in Tasmania and meets all the requirements of Workplace Level II First Aid. Upon completion, successful candidates receive a Senior First Aid Certificate and in some states a Statement of Attainment from the National Community Recreation Training Package. Topics covered include principles of First Aid, basic human anatomy and physiology, control of bleeding, shock, fractures, burns, facial chest and spinal injuries, dressings and bandages etc. Having a first aid certificate is a requirement for all sweeps and coaches.

|
The Member Protection Information Officer course is a one-day course run in cooperation with the NSW Sport Federation/NSW Sport and Recreation to cover the practices and procedures that protect DBNSW members - both individual members such as paddlers, coaches and officials and the member organisations such as clubs, DBNSW and the AusDBF. Upon completion of the course, the participant is responsible for ensuring member protection policies and procedures are made known and adhered to within their organisation. Topics covered include discrimination, harassment and abuse issues in sport, complaint resolution procedures, ethical and practical considerations, record keeping.

This ‘check-up’ for your sporting club or association provides a range of self-assessment tools that will improve the health of your club or ensure it stays in good shape.
This workshop will help you to:
- Assess the state of your club constitution and rules
- Understand the legal and governance obligations of your club
- Learn the steps to sound risk and financial management
- Run fast and effective club meetings.
This workshop will also look at the current issues facing clubs, including:
- Volunteers in grassroots sport – how to attract and retain them
- Finding the funding – innovative approaches to sponsorship, fundraising and grants
- A question and answer session is included for you to discuss any issues specific to your club.
