Sweep Accreditation Sessions

The following are tentative dates for 2010/2011 DBNSW Sweep Accreditation Sessions.

Sydney Region

  • Sat 21 Aug 2010 - Bank Street / AM Session 1 (from 10:30am)
  • Sat 21 Aug 2010 - Bank Street / PM Session 2 (from 12:30pm) if required
  • Sat 11th Sept 2010 - Bank Street (start time to be advised)
  • or Sat 25th Sept 2010 - Bank Street May be cancelled*
    * Having scheduled a test earlier in the month, 25/09/10 Sydney Region test will be dependent on demand.
  • 20th Nov 2010

Important Note - Saturday August 21st - Sydney Test (Bank St, Pyrmont)

  • For fairness & balance, a limit of approx. TEN (10) sweeps per session will be scheduled.
  • A limit of three (3) candidates per club may be imposed per session^. Please list in priority order.
    ^ Limits are particularly relevant to the 10:30am session, so as to allow greater club representation / inclusion.
  • AM Session (from 10:30am). Priority will be given to sweeps training at Bank Street on Saturday Morning.
  • PM Session (from 12:30pm). Available if demand for the morning session requires it (ie ‘overflow’, etc)
  • Clubs &/or Sweeps may request testing in the morning, but is not guaranteed until notified / confirmed.
  • We will try to accommodate requests, but sweeps may be assigned to the afternoon session.

Western Region

  • Sat 22nd Aug 2010 - SIRC, Penrith (from 2:30pm) includes Pendragons

Important Note - Sunday August 22nd - Western Region / Pendragons Test (SIRC)

* An application & training fee is required of individuals using the facilities at SIRC, Penrith.

* Test Candidates (& support paddlers) must read the “SIRC Training - Conditions of Use.
* A “Training Booking Form” must be submitted to SIRC Administration prior to training.

* The booking form - and other details - will be sent to the SIRC test participants.

* This additional requirement does not apply to Pendragon club members.


Southern Region

  • Sat 18th Sep 2010 - Nowra
  • 19th Feb 2011 - Lake Jindabyne

Northern Region

  • 12th June  2010 - Port Macquarie
  • Sat 25th Sept 2010 - Mylestom (NR Coordinator, Peter Richardson to advise start time)
  • 23rd Oct 2010 - Grafton, and
  • 12th March 2011 - Taree (tbc)

 

Test Booking Information

A number of clubs have already contacted their regional / local sweep coordinator and expressed interest in putting forward trainee sweeps for testing. To assist with planning, the Sweep Coordinators require club officials to nominate Sweep Test Candidates for the August and September group tests.

  • Candidates MUST be nominated by a Club Official.
  • It is presumed that Test Candidate's are ‘Race Ready’.
  • Sweep Logs must be presented, showing on-water time.

** Bookings will close at COB on Wednesday 18th August.

Test Format

The test sessions generally follow this format.

  • Roll Call and confirmation we have a 16 paddlers (minimum) to conduct water testing.
  • The Written Test is conducted on-site, prior to the on-water practical assessment.
  • Sweep Test briefing followed by On-Water Testing of individual candidates.

Note:

  • A new Sweep Questionnaire will be distributed to Clubs (and test candidates) prior to the test dates.
  • The questionnaire will need to be completed and returned to the sweep coordinator leading the session.
  • Previous versions of the AusDBF or DBNSW questionnaire will not be accepted.

Written Test

The DBNSW Written Test will use the recently introduced AusDBF Sweep Accreditation Guidelines (version 2) as a reference for questions and answers, amongst other sources including (but not limited to) DBNSW Policies and Guidelines that have been distributed to clubs.

Sweep test candidates who are put forward as ‘Race Ready’ should also be aware of AusDBF & DBNSW Race Rules and Regulations. Sweeps should become familiar with NSW Maritime general boating information and marine safety policies and legislation - particularly those regulations affecting sweeps, such as boat lighting and minimum safety equipment requirements.
