Volunteering for DBNSW

As dragonboating is very much a non-professional sport, the successful running of the sport very much depends on the dedication of volunteers. There can never be enough volunteers for events - as the sport keeps drawing interest from the community and grows at its current pace, our regattas keep getting bigger and more volunteers are needed.

Some DBNSW regattas, called "road-show regattas", involving travelling to regional festivals such as the Jacaranda Festival in Grafton and the Flowing Festival in Jindabyne, so volunteering for DBNSW could well be a country weekend-escape for you!

The types of jobs in which volunteers are needed include:

  • Start line
  • Finishing line - watching all the photo finishes and helping determine the winner!
  • Event set-up and shut-down
  • Boat handling
  • Marshalling
  • Pre-race-day Coaching
  • Sweeping (must be accredited)
  • Drumming (road-show regattas only)

Volunteers can have little or no paddling experience although experience would help. Some roles would require specialised skills and accreditation. To see when volunteering opportunities arise, please check for regattas in the list of Upcoming Events to the right of this page.
