Welcome

The sport of dragon boat has penetrated the waterways around the world and has recently been identified as the fastest growing water sport in Australia. It is no surprise with each crew comprising 22 people! Dragon boating is a unique sport in its ability to attract a broad demographic of members with varying cultural and occupational backgrounds as well as varying degrees of age and fitness. As a result, dragon boat clubs are being set up in Sydney and across the state of New South Wales all the time.

Dragon boating is the ultimate team sport with perfect timing imperative to a crews success. For this reason dragon boat has become a popular team building activity for corporate days and an enjoyable cross training or social day for people who enjoy a bit of a challenge.

Resignation of DBNSW President - Steven Davidson
Written by Daniel Kong
Tuesday, 16 February 2010 20:32

It is with considerable regret that I announce with immediate effect the resignation of Steven Davidson as President of Dragon Boats NSW Inc.

Steven has continued a fine tradition of strong and visionary DBNSW Presidents and he has been a great inspiration to both myself and my fellow Board members. I have witnessed firsthand Steven’s absolute commitment to the advancement of our sport and we all owe him an enormous debt of gratitude for this.

In Steven’s letter of resignation to the Board he paid particular tribute to our Business Manager, Melanie Cantwell;

“I would like to personally thank Melanie Cantwell for her support during my term as President. Without Melanie, New South Wales dragon boating would not be where it is today. I’m sure a lot of paddlers don’t fully understand the amount of time and effort Melanie puts into making dragon boating in New South Wales such a success.”

Fortunately, Steven will continue to have strong connections with our sport through Easts and I also look forward to utilising his considerable coaching and mentoring skills as NSW and indeed Australia, broaden their competitive footprint overseas.

The Board of Management will be meeting this Friday to discuss the vacancy of President and I will advise you shortly the outcome of this meeting.

To celebrate the Chinese "Year of the Tiger', the Sydney Fish Market are holding an event where ACCA will be dragon boat racing against the NRL team, Wests Tigers!

The event will be held at Fish Market in Blackwattle Bay, Pyrmont, from 11.30am on the 14th Feb. There will be 3 x 200m races with the boys from the Wests Tigers racing against ACCA.

It would be great if you could come down and support ACCA while ACCA go head to head against professional athletes. This will be a huge event, with the Tigers staying around afterwards to sign autographs and take photos.

Hi everyone,

Registration' s for the state team are going well, however we still require more paddlers to register to ensure we can fill 2 teams for each division.

The coaching team has already received some feedback which indicates not all paddlers are aware about the campaign.

AusDBF Australian Championships

AusDBF and DASA have decided to try something a little bit different this year, in order to for DASA to be on top of their budget and be able to plan correctly for the numbers they expect, AusDBF is issuing an Expression of Interest which we would ask all States and Clubs who are “thinking of participating a the Australian Championships”. We do understand that individuals pull out and number can fluctuate, but this will also help us determine what category’s and divisions are likely to run as well. It would be very much appreciated if you could make sure the EOI is filled out and emailed/faxed back by the Friday 15th January 2010.
