Welcome

The sport of dragon boat has penetrated the waterways around the world and has recently been identified as the fastest growing water sport in Australia. It is no surprise with each crew comprising 22 people! Dragon boating is a unique sport in its ability to attract a broad demographic of members with varying cultural and occupational backgrounds as well as varying degrees of age and fitness. As a result, dragon boat clubs are being set up in Sydney and across the state of New South Wales all the time.

Dragon boating is the ultimate team sport with perfect timing imperative to a crews success. For this reason dragon boat has become a popular team building activity for corporate days and an enjoyable cross training or social day for people who enjoy a bit of a challenge.

Congratulations to everyone who participated at the 2010 Australian Championships in Adelaide last week. We had a massive program to get through which we more or less achieved.

A big thank you to everyone for all your co-operation and assistance without this AusDBF would certainly not have been able to get through the 4 days of racing.

There were some fantastic results, so my congratulations to all the winners.

Good luck to all those teams who will be heading off to World Club Crew Championships in Macau in July.

For all those interested all the results from the 4days have now been uploaded onto the AusdBF website as well as the updated sweeping Guidelines which were ratified at the AusDBF AGM.

New racing category: Great Grand Dragons
Written by Daniel Kong
Thursday, 01 April 2010 00:00

AusDBF have introduced the Great Grand Dragons (GGD) category for paddlers aged 60 years or older. To test the viability of the category AusDBF have announced that it will offer it as a separate category in the State vs State competition on Thursday 22nd April, 2010.

In support of this new category the DBNSW Board in conjunction with the NSW Head Coach, George Louie are considering endorsing a team to participate in the Adelaide GGD event.

Eligibility criteria:

  • GGD paddlers must be 60 years of age on or before 1st June 2010
  • Those already committed to a NSW State GD, Southern Region or Northern Region State Team are ineligible
  • They must be available to race at the Westlakes Regatta Centre in Adelaide on Thursday 22nd April
  • They must pay for their own race entry fee, air fares, accommodation and uniform
  • The decision as to what the uniform will look like has yet to be determined but will not be the NSW State Representatives uniform
  • The division will need to appoint its own manager and coach
  • They must commit to a preset training regime in the remaining weeks - each week a minimum of three club paddle sessions plus one team paddle session either at Bank St, Pyrmont or with either of the Regional Teams.

Please note that a decision to endorse a GGD team is dependent upon George’s observations during training sessions. George will advise the Board of his recommendations pending his observations and a final decision will then be made and communicated to those as soon as possible.

For further information, please contact George Louie or Daniel Kong.
