2022 State Championships Cancelled

Published Thu 12 May 2022

DBNSW acknowledges that the months leading up to the State Championships have been uncertain as a result of recent weather events impacting the water safety at the Sydney International Regatta Centre (SIRC).

Despite DBNSW’s commitment to put on a State Championships for all our clubs, we regret to inform our membership that the 2022 State Championships has been cancelled.

While SIRC isn’t affected by high water levels, the latest water quality testing has returned a positive result of Blue Green Algae. SIRC is now at “Red Alert” with no water activities to be conducted due to the health implications Blue Green Algae may have on people who come in contact with the water.

The venue will re-open to public recreation once it is safe to do so. Unfortunately, this will not be before Sunday 22 May, giving DBNSW no other choice than to cancel the 2022 State Championships.

Whilst it is not the end of the season we had hoped for, we now look forward to launching the new 2022-23 season with the Winter Warmer Regatta, Sunday 14 August.

We are excited to provide you with a teaser to the start of the season and announce the following regattas:

  • Winter Warmer – Sunday 14 August, Kurnell
  • DBNSW Regatta Series Round 1 – Sunday 4 September, Dobroyd
  • DBNSW Regatta Series Round 2 – Saturday 1 October, SIRC
  • Region v Region – Sunday 2 October, SIRC

We once again thank the entire Dragon Boating community for their resilience, support and understanding in what has been a challenging period for the sport.
