2022 State Championships Update

Published Fri 22 Apr 2022

DBNSW is committed to putting on a State Championships for our clubs and paddlers and thank everyone who provided feedback and attended the club meeting last Thursday. This has helped guide DBNSW in the decision making process for the 2022 State Championships.

Following the meeting we received communications from Sydney International Regatta Centre (SIRC) that the venue is now available on Sunday 22 May.

Considering this new information and the feedback DBNSW has received. A decision has been made to reschedule the 2022 State Championships to Sunday 22 May. As a result this means Region v Region for 2021-22 season has been cancelled, however it has always been the intention of DBNSW to bring Region v Region forward to the first half of the season, so Regions will only have a short wait till Region v Region is on again. This will allow all Regions more time to prepare, recruit and train for this great regatta.

DBNSW has and will continue to be in constant communication with SIRC and have been granted permission to conduct a site inspection on Friday 29 April. Following the site inspection and regular feedback from SIRC we will look to assess all the information we have and make a decision week commencing 2 May 2022 to either continue planning for the 22 May 2022 to hold the State Championships or look to cancel due to the uncertainty of SIRC not being open in time.

In assisting DBNSW in this process we ask all clubs who intend to participate at the State Championships for the rescheduled date of 22 May to get their entries into RevSport by Sunday 1 May (Crew list can be added or updated post this date). By having clubs showing their intent to compete at the State Championships this will allow us to better understand clubs interest to compete under this new rescheduled date.

We thank the entire Dragon Boating community for the continued patience and understanding throughout this challenging period within the sport.
