2022 State Championships Update

Published Thu 05 May 2022

DBNSW is committed to putting on a State Championships for our clubs and paddlers and wish to thank everyone who provided feedback and ongoing support for this year’s event. This has helped guide DBNSW in the decision-making process.

As previously announced Sydney International Regatta Centre (SIRC) allowed DBNSW to come on to site last Friday 29 April to inspect the venue and discuss the 2022 State Championships with them.

The inspection was positive in the fact that SIRC is no longer affected by high water levels. Only the boat loading pontoons is still under water but we are hopeful this will drop in the coming weeks.

SIRC have also conducted water quality monitored due to the presence of Blue Green Algae in the lakes. It is our understanding that further water quality testing has been conducted this week, with results expected some time next week.

The venue will re-open to public recreation once it is safe to do so. In positive news, some controlled, on-land activities have begun to resume safely, and it is expected the venue will partially re-open to the public mid-May.

On water activities are subject to continued water quality testing.

Considering this new updated information, DBNSW is still planning to hold the State Championships on Sunday 22 May and strongly encourage all clubs to register their intent to compete at the event now by getting their entries into RevSPORT. Please note close of entries date has been extended to 9am Monday 16 May 2022.

A further update and final decision will be provided to the membership before Friday 13 May.

We once again thank the entire Dragon Boating community for the continued patience and understanding throughout this challenging period within the sport.
