General update and advice for all clubs
Published Tue 17 Mar 2020
Dear Clubs, Members and Stakeholders,
DBNSW continues to monitor the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation; especially the impact it could have on our members, our clubs, and our events.
“Social distancing” is the one of the recommended activities that we all should take to help flatten the curve of spread of the virus. Dragon Boating is a sport where it is near impossible to achieve the 1.5 metre social distancing requirement, from sitting in the boat, to handling it on and off the water.
Until further notice, DBNSW is recommending the following for all Dragon Boating activities:

Dragon Boating is a sport where it is near impossible to achieve the 1.5 metre social distancing requirement, from sitting in the boat, to handling it on and off the water.
Until further notice, DBNSW is recommending the following for all Dragon Boating activities:
Club Training
As we are following government advice that people should avoid all unnecessary social contact (within 1.5metres), we advise all NSW clubs to suspend all group training activities.
This advice includes all clubs who are training for the IDBF World Club Crew Championships in France. Clubs can keep up to date on this specific event via the IDBF website, the latest statement is here.
This advice excludes individual training activities, where paddlers should make their own assessments on the risk involved with undertaking physical activities. Paddlers should keep in mind health expert’s advice on preventing the spread of the virus including social distancing and good hygiene when taking part in individual activities.
NSW State Squad
As with the club guidance above, we are also advising that all NSW State Squad training sessions are suspended. A statement from AusDBF and DBNSW regarding the status of AusChamps is expected in the next day.
DBNSW Events (hosted and endorsed by)
You will have seen the communication yesterday (16th March) cancelling DBNSW Race 4, Point Wolstoncroft. DBNSW also recommends the cancellation of all upcoming regional DB Regattas scheduled for March, April and May in NSW.
We understand that this advice will be disruptive to our members and our clubs, but our paddler’s health and safety are of the upmost importance and it would be irresponsible for us all to continue with the above activities.
DBNSW will continually review this advice and make further announcements as required when the government changes their recommendations regarding social distancing. Clubs should continue to keep themselves informed by monitoring government websites and advice regularly.
