Junior Paddler Development Policy

Published Wed 24 Aug 2016

Dear Clubs & Paddlers,

Over the past 12 months, the Board of DBNSW has found a number of important policies, which were in urgent need of review. Clubs will remember the Member Protection Policy has been updated and a new Child Protection Policy has been created.

The latest Policy to receive the Board’s attention has been the Due Diligence Policy. This Policy regulated if a Club was qualified to institute a junior development program. Unfortunately, the current Policy created unnecessary paper work for clubs. This resulted in very few Clubs submitting the required documentation to DBNSW for approval. The Junior Sport Policy now replaces the Due Diligence Policy with immediate effect and is available under the Policies & Documents section of our website. To create some uniformity with programs, the new Policy calls junior programs, Junior Paddler Development Programs (JPDP).

The JPDP requires Clubs to collect information about a program it wishes to conduct within its area. This may be a junior recruiting program or a program for a designated school. Most of the information collected by the Club remains with the Club; some of the information must be submitted to DBNSW for scrutiny and approval. To assist Clubs the Policy comes with Checklist, which can be used to check-off items as they are gathered.

Also on the DBNSW website is a sample JPDP Checklist. Any Clubs wishing to introduce a JPDP should call the DBNSW office for an initial consultation. Clubs, which have completed the old Due Diligence Policy will be required to complete the new Checklist at the start of the 2017-18 year.
