Regatta Series Update & Office Christmas Closure

Published Wed 21 Dec 2016

As we wrap up the calendar year and march into 2017 we can take a look at how the Regatta Series table is shaping up ahead of the last series race in January.

Starting off with a look at the Premier MixedBank St based club The Sloths are the first official Regatta Series winners after securing 1st place for the third time in a row this season, congratulations.

In the Senior B Mixed it will go down to the wire ar Race 4 with only 3 points separating Newcastle Dragonhunters, Bei Loon and Nowra at the top.

It is also extremely close in the Senior A Mixed with Different Strokes currently ahead of Sydney Tsunami by a point and DSA trailing them by two.

In the Junior Mixed races it has been neck and neck between the Sandy Point/Danebank crew and the Sydney Zodiacs but an appearance at Race 4 should be enough for the Sandy Point/Danebank juniors to secure the series trophy.

It is proving to be a tight race between Different Strokes and ACCA in the Premier Women category this season. ACCA came through with strong finishes in Race 2 & 3 to pip Different Strokes and give them a great shot a the series trophy heading into Race 4. Nevertheless ACCA will be hoping for a first place finish in the Race 4 final and a slip up from the always strong Different Strokes to beat the reigning Premier Women champions.

A Senior A Open finals appearance at Race 4 would be enough for the combined FFB/NBDBC team to secure the series title. Being a new club hasn't stopped the Sudu Dragons from strong performances in their combination with Nowra who currently sit in 2nd place with Newcastle Dragonhunters following in 3rd.

Our second official Regatta Series winner comes in the Junior Women category with the Marist Dragons holding off  the St Schols and Sandy Point/Danebank crews with two first places and a second place finish during the season.

Different Strokes have successfully defended their Senior A Women title with a clean sweep of 1st during races 1, 2 and 3. Meanwhile six clubs have a chance of taking second with a good result in the Race 4 final.

Finally the Premier Open is proving to be the tightest division of them all which will come at no surprise to those of us who witnessed the amazingly close finish at Race 3. ACCA currently hold a three point lead despite having not secured a first place finish so far this series. On their tails are Tsunami/Zodiacs, Sloths and the Pacific Dragons. Good luck to all crews at Race 4!

The DBNSW office will be closed from the 23rd of December and reopen on the 3rd of January.

We hope all clubs and paddlers have a fantastic holiday break and a safe New Year. We will see you in January at Race 4!
